A step up from a wagging tail would be playfulness. Any dog that is acting in a playful manner in a brand new environment should have no trouble adjusting to a new home. These types of dogs always adjust well and usually socialize well.

As long as they aren’t exploring in a fearful manner with their tail between their legs or ears back then this is fine.
